Yānīdha bhūtāni samāgatāni, bhummāni [bhūmāni (ka.)] vā yāni va antalikkhe;
|
Whatever beings are assembled here So be they native to the earth or sky—
|
|
Sabbeva bhūtā sumanā bhavantu, athopi sakkacca suṇantu bhāsitaṃ.
|
Let beings each and all have peace of mind And also listen closely to these words.
|
|
2.
|
|
|
Tasmā hi bhūtā nisāmetha sabbe, mettaṃ karotha mānusiyā pajāya;
|
Therefore, o beings, give attention all: Work lovingkindness for the race of men;
|
|
Divā ca ratto ca haranti ye baliṃ, tasmā hi ne rakkhatha appamattā.
|
By day, by night, their offerings they bring, Wherefore protect them well with diligence.
|
|
3.
|
|
|
Yaṃ kiñci vittaṃ idha vā huraṃ vā, saggesu vā yaṃ ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ;
|
Whatever to be prized, what rarest jewel, Is found here or beyond or in the heavens,
|
|
Na no samaṃ atthi tathāgatena, idampi buddhe ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ;
|
None is there equal to a Perfect One: This jewel rare is in the Enlightened One;
|
|
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
So may there by this very truth be safety.
|
|
4.
|
|
|
Khayaṃ virāgaṃ amataṃ paṇītaṃ, yadajjhagā sakyamunī samāhito;
|
Such waning, fading, as is deathless, rarest, The Sakyan Sage in concentration found;
|
|
Na tena dhammena samatthi kiñci, idampi dhamme ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ;
|
That True Ideal no equal has at all: This jewel rare is in the True Idea;
|
|
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
So may there by this very truth be safety.
|
|
5.
|
|
|
Yaṃ buddhaseṭṭho parivaṇṇayī suciṃ, samādhimānantarikaññamāhu;
|
The Enlightened One, most high, a Pureness praised, Calling it 'Concentration straight-resulting ',
|
|
Samādhinā tena samo na vijjati, idampi dhamme ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ;
|
No equal is there to such concentration: This jewel rare is in the True Idea;
|
|
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
So may there by this very truth be safety.
|
|
6.
|
|
|
Ye puggalā aṭṭha sataṃ pasatthā, cattāri etāni yugāni honti;
|
Whom those at Peace extol are the Eight Persons, Which are Four Pairs,
|
|
Te dakkhiṇeyyā sugatassa sāvakā, etesu dinnāni mahapphalāni;
|
they merit offerings, And they are the Sublime One's [true] disciples; Gifts given them repay a rich reward:
|
|
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ, etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
This jewel rare is in the Community; So may there by this very truth be safety.
|

7.
|
|
|
Ye suppayuttā manasā daḷhena, nikkāmino gotamasāsanamhi;
|
Such as by strength of mind in true vocation Desireless dwell in Gotama's Dispensation,
|
|
Te pattipattā amataṃ vigayha, laddhā mudhā nibbutiṃ [nibbuti (ka.)] bhuñjamānā;
|
Their goal they reached encountering the Deathless; They savour without loss the quenching gained:
|
|
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ, etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
This jewel rare is in the Community;So by this very truth may there be safety.
|
|
8.
|
|
|
Yathindakhīlo pathavissito [paṭhavissito (ka. sī.), pathaviṃsito (ka. si. syā. kaṃ. pī.)] siyā, catubbhi vātehi asampakampiyo;
|
As a locking-post deep-planted in the earth Would stand unshaken by the four winds' blast,
|
|
Tathūpamaṃ sappurisaṃ vadāmi, yo ariyasaccāni avecca passati;
|
So too, indeed, is the True Man, I say, That sees the Noble Truths by undergoing:
|
|
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ, etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
This jewel rare is in the Community; So by this very truth may there be safety.
|
|
9.
|
|
|
Ye ariyasaccāni vibhāvayanti, gambhīrapaññena sudesitāni;
|
Such as clearly evince the Noble Truths Well taught by Him Profound in Understanding,
|
|
Kiñcāpi te honti bhusaṃ pamattā, na te bhavaṃ aṭṭhamamādiyanti;
|
Although they may be mightily neglectful, Still they can never take an eighth existence:
|
|
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ, etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
This jewel rare is in the Community ;So may there by this very truth be safety.
|
|
10.
|
|
|
Sahāvassa dassanasampadāya [sahāvasaddassanasampadāya (ka.)], tayassu dhammā jahitā bhavanti;
|
Along, too, with his excellence in seeing He comes to have abandoned three ideas:
|
|
Sakkāyadiṭṭhī vicikicchitañca, sīlabbataṃ vāpi yadatthi kiñci.
|
View of embodiment, uncertainty,[Misapprehending] virtue and duty, all;
|
|
11.
|
|
|
Catūhapāyehi ca vippamutto, chaccābhiṭhānāni [cha cābhiṭhānāni (sī. syā.)] abhabba kātuṃ [abhabbo kātuṃ (sī.)] ;
|
Immune from the four states of deprivation, He cannot do the major six wrongdoings:
|
|
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ, etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
This jewel rare is in the Community; So may there by this very truth be safety.
|
|
12.
|
|
|
Kiñcāpi so kamma [kammaṃ (sī. syā. kaṃ. pī.)] karoti pāpakaṃ, kāyena vācā uda cetasā vā;
|
Though he can still perform an evil actionBy body even, or by speech or mind,
|
|
Abhabba [abhabbo (bahūsu)] so tassa paṭicchadāya [paṭicchādāya (sī.)], abhabbatā diṭṭhapadassa vuttā;
|
Yet he cannot conceal it, and this fact Proclaims him that has seen the State [of Peace]:
|
|
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ, etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
This jewel rare is in the Community; So may there by this very truth be safety.
|

13.
|
|
|
Vanappagumbe yatha [yathā (sī. syā.)] phussitagge, gimhānamāse paṭhamasmiṃ [paṭhamasmi (?)] gimhe;
|
As a tall forest tree with blossom crowned In the warm summer month, the early heat,
|
|
Tathūpamaṃ dhammavaraṃ adesayi [adesayī (sī.)], nibbānagāmiṃ paramaṃ hitāya;
|
Such the glorious Ideal he displayed, Extinction-leading, for the weal supreme:
|
|
Idampi buddhe ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ, etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
This jewel rare is in the Enlightened One; So may there by this very truth be safety.
|
|
14.
|
|
|
Varo varaññū varado varāharo, anuttaro dhammavaraṃ adesayi;
|
Glorious knower, giver, bringer of glory, Peerless, he taught the glorious True Ideal:
|
|
Idampi buddhe ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ, etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
This jewel rare is in the Enlightened One; So may there by this very truth be safety.
|

15.
|
|
|
Khīṇaṃ purāṇaṃ nava natthi sambhavaṃ, virattacittāyatike bhavasmiṃ;
|
Consumed the old, the new no more gives being, From cognizance lust faded for new being,
|
|
Te khīṇabījā avirūḷhichandā, nibbanti dhīrā yathāyaṃ [yathayaṃ (ka.)] padīpo;
|
The germ consumed, they have no more zeal for growth, And steadfast, they go out, as did this lamp:
|
|
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṃ paṇītaṃ, etena saccena suvatthi hotu.
|
This jewel rare is in the Community; So may there by this very truth be safety.

16.
|
|
|

|
|
|

|
|
