Tirokuṭṭesu tiṭṭhanti, sandhisiṅghāṭakesu ca; | They stand beyond the walls, and at the junctions and crossroads, | 1. Without the walls they stand and wait, And at the junctions and road-forks; | Они стоят за стенами, у пересечения дорог, на перекрёстках | |

Na hi tattha kasi [kasī (sī.)] atthi, gorakkhettha na vijjati; | For in that place there is no ploughing, and cattle-rearing is not found there, | Now there is never ploughing there, Nor any cattle-herding found, | Ведь нет там земледелия и скотоводства там тоже не найти | |
Vaṇijjā tādisī natthi, hiraññena kayokayaṃ [kayākkayaṃ (sī.), kayā kayaṃ (syā.)] ; | similarly there is no trading, or buying and selling of gold. | 7. Nor merchandizing just the same, Nor bartering for coin of gold: | и точно так же нет там торговли, нет продажи и покупки в обмен на золото. | |

Yathā vārivahā pūrā, paripūrenti sāgaraṃ; | Just as rivers that are full flow and fill up the ocean, | 9. As river-beds when full can bear The water down to fill the sea, | Как полноводные реки наполняют океан | |
Evameva ito dinnaṃ, petānaṃ upakappati. | so too what has been given here is of benefit to the departed. | So giving given here can serve The ghosts of the departed kin. | так и то, что дано здесь, приносит благо голодным духам. | |

Adāsi me akāsi me, ñātimittā [ñāti mitto (?)] sakhā ca me; | Thinking: “He gave to me, he worked for me, he was my relative, my friend, my companion,” | 10. Petānaṃ dakkhiṇaṃ dajjā, pubbe katamanussaraṃ. | he should give gifts for the departed, remembering what they have done before. | Give gifts, then, for departed ones,Recalling what they used to do. | пусть он совершает дары голодным духам, помня, что они сделали для него в прошлом. | |

Na hi ruṇṇaṃ vā soko vā, yā caññā paridevanā; | For no tears, or grief, or any other lamentations, | 11. No weeping, nor yet sorrowing, Nor any kind of mourning, | Ведь ни слёзы, ни печаль, ни другие причитания | |

Balañca bhikkhūnamanuppadinnaṃ [… manuppadinnavā (ka.)], tumhehi puññaṃ pasutaṃ anappakanti. | strength has also been given to the monks, and no little merit has been produced by you! | And how the bhikkhus can be given strength as well, And how great merit can be stored away by you. | И также монахам была дана сила, а вами было совершено немало благих поступков. | |
