"Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, vassānaṃ pacchime māse saradasamaye viddhe vigatavalāhake deve [nabhe (sī.)] ādicco nabhaṃ abbhussakkamāno [abbhuggamamāno (ka. aṭṭha.)] sabbaṃ ākāsagataṃ [ākāsaṃ (syā.)] tamagataṃ abhivihacca [abhihacca (syā.)] bhāsate ca tapate ca virocati ca; evameva kho, bhikkhave, yāni kānici opadhikāni puññakiriyavatthūni sabbāni tāni mettāya cetovimuttiyā kalaṃ nāgghanti soḷasiṃ, mettāyeva tāni cetovimutti adhiggahetvā bhāsate ca tapate ca virocati ca.

“Just as in the last month of the rains, in autumn, when the sky is clear & cloudless, the sun, on ascending the sky, overpowers the space immersed in darkness, shines, blazes, & dazzles, even so, all the grounds for making merit leading to spontaneously arising [in heaven] do not equal one-sixteenth of the awareness-release through good will. Good will–surpassing them–shines, blazes, & dazzles.

"Just as in the last month of the rainy season, in the autumn, when the sky is clear and free of clouds, the sun, on ascending, dispels the darkness of space and shines forth, bright and brilliant, even so, whatever grounds there are for making merit productive of a future birth, all these do not equal a sixteenth part of the liberation of mind by loving-kindness. The liberation of mind by loving-kindness surpasses them and shines forth, bright and brilliant.

Подобно тому как последний месяц сезона дождей, осенью, когда небо чистое и безоблачное и солнце восходя рассеивает тьму пространства, светится, сияет и сверкает, так и какие бы ни были основания для совершения благих дел, ведущие к возрождению [в благом уделе], все они не могут сравниться и с одной шестнадцатой освобождения ума с помощью дружелюбия. Освобождение ума с помощью дружелюбия превосходит их, светится, сияет и сверкает.
