8."Bhante nāgasena, 'jalūkāya ekaṃ aṅgaṃ gahetabba'nti yaṃ vadesi, katamaṃ taṃ ekaṃ aṅgaṃ gahetabba"nti?

Venerable Nāgasena, that one quality of the leech which you say he ought to take, which is it?’

48. Почтенный Нагасена, ты сказал, что следует взять одно качество пиявки. Каково это качество?

"Yathā, mahārāja, jalūkā yattha allīyati, tattheva daḷhaṃ allīyitvā ruhiraṃ pivati, evameva kho, mahārāja, yoginā yogāvacarena yasmiṃ ārammaṇe cittaṃ allīyati, taṃ ārammaṇaṃ vaṇṇato ca saṇṭhānato ca disato ca okāsato ca paricchedato ca liṅgato ca nimittato ca daḷhaṃ patiṭṭhāpetvā tenevārammaṇena vimuttirasamasecanakaṃ pātabbaṃ.

‘Just, O king, as the leech, wheresoever it is put on, there does it adhere firmly, drinking the blood; just so, O king, should the strenuous Bhikshu, earnest in effort, on whatsoever subject for meditation he may fix his mind, call that subject firmly up before him in respect of its colour, and shape, and position, and extension, and boundaries, and nature, and characteristic marks, drinking the delicious draught of the ambrosia of emancipation.

– Известно, государь, что там, где пиявка присосется, она долго будет сосать и пить кровь. Вот точно так же, государь, и занимающемуся йогой йогу следует присосаться мыслью к опоре созерцания, твердо установить ее цвет, объем, место, протяженность, границы, отличительную особенность и признаки и, опираясь на нее, пить сладчайший нектар свободы.
