106.Vuttañhetaṃ bhagavatā, vuttamarahatāti me sutaṃ –
|
§106. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
|
|
"Sabrahmakāni, bhikkhave, tāni kulāni yesaṃ puttānaṃ mātāpitaro ajjhāgāre pūjitā honti.
|
“Monks, living with Brahma are those families where, in the home, mother & father are revered by the children.
|
|
Sapubbadevatāni, bhikkhave, tāni kulāni yesaṃ puttānaṃ mātāpitaro ajjhāgāre pūjitā honti.
|
Living with the first devas are those families where, in the home, mother & father are revered by the children.
|
|
Sapubbācariyakāni, bhikkhave, tāni kulāni yesaṃ puttānaṃ mātāpitaro ajjhāgāre pūjitā honti.
|
Living with the first teachers are those families where, in the home, mother & father are revered by the children.
|
|
Sāhuneyyakāni, bhikkhave, tāni kulāni yesaṃ puttānaṃ mātāpitaro ajjhāgāre pūjitā honti.
|
Living with those worthy of gifts are those families where, in the home, mother & father are revered by the children.
|
|
"'Brahmā'ti, bhikkhave, mātāpitūnaṃ etaṃ adhivacanaṃ.
|
‘Brahma’ is a synonym for mother & father.
|
|
'Pubbadevatā'ti, bhikkhave, mātāpitūnaṃ etaṃ adhivacanaṃ.
|
‘The first devas’ is a synonym for mother & father.
|
|
'Pubbācariyā'ti, bhikkhave, mātāpitūnaṃ etaṃ adhivacanaṃ.
|
‘The first teachers’ is a synonym for mother & father.
|
|
'Āhuneyyā'ti, bhikkhave, mātāpitūnaṃ etaṃ adhivacanaṃ.
|
‘Those worthy of gifts’ is a synonym for mother & father.
|
|
Taṃ kissa hetu?
|
Why is that?
|
|
Bahukārā, bhikkhave, mātāpitaro puttānaṃ āpādakā posakā imassa lokassa dassetāro"ti.
|
Mother & father do much for their children. They care for them, nourish them, introduce them to this world.”
|
|
Etamatthaṃ bhagavā avoca.
|
[This is the meaning of what the Blessed One said.]
|
|
Tatthetaṃ iti vuccati –
|
[So with regard to this it was said:]
|
|
"Brahmāti mātāpitaro, pubbācariyāti vuccare;
|
Mother & father, compassionate to their family, are called Brahma,
|
|
Āhuneyyā ca puttānaṃ, pajāya anukampakā.
|
first teachers, those worthy of gifts from their children.
|
|
"Tasmā hi ne namasseyya, sakkareyya ca paṇḍito;
|
So the wise should pay them homage, honor,
|
|
Annena atha pānena, vatthena sayanena ca;
|
with food & drink, clothing & bedding,
|
|
Ucchādanena nhāpanena [nahāpanena (sī.)], pādānaṃ dhovanena ca.
|
anointing & bathing, & washing their feet.
|
|
"Tāya naṃ pāricariyāya, mātāpitūsu paṇḍitā;
|
Performing these services to their parents, the wise
|
|
Idheva naṃ pasaṃsanti, pecca sagge pamodatī"ti.
|
are praised right here and after death rejoice in heaven.
|
|
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
|
[This, too, was the meaning of what was said by the Blessed One, so I have heard.]
|
