102.Vuttañhetaṃ bhagavatā, vuttamarahatāti me sutaṃ –
§102. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
"Jānatohaṃ, bhikkhave, passato āsavānaṃ khayaṃ vadāmi, no ajānato no apassato.
“Monks, for one knowing & seeing, I tell you, there is the ending of effluents, not for one not knowing & seeing.
Kiñca, bhikkhave, jānato, kiṃ passato āsavānaṃ khayo hoti?
For one knowing what & seeing what is there the ending of effluents?
Idaṃ dukkhanti, bhikkhave, jānato passato āsavānaṃ khayo hoti.
For one knowing & seeing, ‘This is stress,’ there is the ending of effluents.
Ayaṃ dukkhasamudayoti, bhikkhave, jānato passato āsavānaṃ khayo hoti.
For one knowing & seeing, ‘This is the origination of stress,’ there is the ending of effluents.
Ayaṃ dukkhanirodhoti, bhikkhave, jānato passato āsavānaṃ khayo hoti.
For one knowing & seeing, ‘This is the cessation of stress,’ there is the ending of effluents.
Ayaṃ dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadāti, bhikkhave, jānato passato āsavānaṃ khayo hoti.
For one knowing & seeing, ‘This is the path of practice leading to the cessation of stress,’ there is the ending of effluents.
Evaṃ kho, bhikkhave, jānato evaṃ passato āsavānaṃ khayo hotī"ti.
For one knowing in this way and seeing in this way is there the ending of effluents.”
Etamatthaṃ bhagavā avoca.
[This is the meaning of what the Blessed One said.]
Tatthetaṃ iti vuccati –
[So with regard to this it was said:]
"Sekhassa sikkhamānassa, ujumaggānusārino;
For a learner in training along the straight path, there arises:
Khayasmiṃ paṭhamaṃ ñāṇaṃ, tato aññā anantarā.
first, the knowledge of ending; then, the gnosis unsurpassed;
"Tato aññā vimuttassa, vimuttiñāṇamuttamaṃ;
then, the gnosis of one released– release-knowledge, superlative,
Uppajjati khaye ñāṇaṃ, khīṇā saṃyojanā iti.
the knowledge of ending: ‘The fetters are ended.’
"Na tvevidaṃ kusītena, bālenamavijānatā;
Certainly not by the lazy fool uncomprehending,
Nibbānaṃ adhigantabbaṃ, sabbaganthappamocana"nti.
is there attained Unbinding, the loosening of all ties.
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
[This, too, was the meaning of what was said by the Blessed One, so I have heard.]
Tatiyaṃ.
