63.Vuttañhetaṃ bhagavatā, vuttamarahatāti me sutaṃ –
§63. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
"Tayome, bhikkhave, addhā.
“Monks, there are these three times.
Katame tayo?
Which three?
Atīto addhā, anāgato addhā, paccuppanno addhā – ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo addhā"ti.
Past time, future time, present time. These are the three times.”
Etamatthaṃ bhagavā avoca.
[This is the meaning of what the Blessed One said.]
Tatthetaṃ iti vuccati –
[So with regard to this it was said:]
"Akkheyyasaññino sattā, akkheyyasmiṃ patiṭṭhitā;
Perceiving in terms of signs, beings take a stand on signs.
Akkheyyaṃ apariññāya, yogamāyanti maccuno.
Not fully comprehending signs, they come into the bonds of death.
"Akkheyyañca pariññāya, akkhātāraṃ na maññati;
But fully comprehending signs, one doesn’t construe a signifier.
Phuṭṭho vimokkho manasā, santipadamanuttaraṃ.
Touching liberation with the heart, the state of peace unsurpassed,
"Sa ve [sace (ka.)] akkheyyasampanno, santo santipade rato;
consummate in terms of signs, peaceful, delighting in the peaceful state, judicious,
Saṅkhāyasevī dhammaṭṭho, saṅkhyaṃ nopeti vedagū"ti.
an attainer-of-wisdom makes use of classifications but can’t be classified.1
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
[This, too, was the meaning of what was said by the Blessed One, so I have heard.]
Catutthaṃ.
