52.Vuttañhetaṃ bhagavatā, vuttamarahatāti me sutaṃ –
§52. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
"Tisso imā, bhikkhave, vedanā.
“Monks, there are these three feelings.
Katamā tisso?
Which three?
Sukhā vedanā, dukkhā vedanā, adukkhamasukhā vedanā –
A feeling of pleasure, a feeling of pain, a feeling of neither pleasure nor pain.
Imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso vedanā"ti.
These are the three feelings.”
Etamatthaṃ bhagavā avoca.
[This is the meaning of what the Blessed One said.]
Tatthetaṃ iti vuccati –
[So with regard to this it was said:]
"Samāhito sampajāno, sato buddhassa sāvako;
Centered, alert, mindful, the Awakened One’s disciple
Vedanā ca pajānāti, vedanānañca sambhavaṃ.
discerns feelings, how feelings come into play,
"Yattha cetā nirujjhanti, maggañca khayagāminaṃ;
where they cease, & the path to their ending.
Vedanānaṃ khayā bhikkhu, nicchāto parinibbuto"ti.
With the ending of feelings, a monk free from hunger is totally unbound.
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
[This, too, was the meaning of what was said by the Blessed One, so I have heard.]
Tatiyaṃ.
