222.Tena kho pana samayena aññatarasmiṃ āvāse tadahu pavāraṇāya sambahulā āvāsikā bhikkhū sannipatiṃsu, pañca vā atirekā vā. Now on that occasion, in a certain residence, on the day of the Invitation several resident monks gathered—five or more.
Te na jāniṃsu "atthaññe āvāsikā bhikkhū anāgatā"ti. They didn’t know that there were other resident monks who hadn’t come.
Te dhammasaññino vinayasaññino vaggā samaggasaññino pavāresuṃ. Perceiving it to be Dhamma, perceiving it to be Vinaya—factional, but perceiving it to be united—they invited.
Tehi pavāriyamāne athaññe āvāsikā bhikkhū āgacchiṃsu bahutarā. As they were inviting, a greater number of other resident monks came.
Bhagavato etamatthaṃ ārocesuṃ. They reported the matter to the Blessed One.
