| 163.Tena kho pana samayena sambahulā bhikkhū bālā abyattā disaṃgamikā ācariyupajjhāye na āpucchiṃsu [na āpucchiṃsu (ka.)]. | Now on that occasion several inexperienced, incompetent monks, traveling to distant places, didn’t ask leave of their teachers or preceptors. | |

| Te [tehi (ka.)], bhikkhave, ācariyupajjhāyehi pucchitabbā – "kahaṃ gamissatha, kena saddhiṃ gamissathā"ti? | “They should be asked by their teachers and preceptors1, ‘Where will you go? With whom will you go?’ |
