Majjhimayāme sakaladasasahassilokadhātudevatāyo okāsaṃ labhamānā bhagavantaṃ upasaṅkamitvā pañhaṃ pucchanti yathābhisaṅkhataṃ antamaso caturakkharampi.

1.5. In the middle watch of the night, the divine beings of the entire ten thousand lokadhātu (would elements), gaining their oportunity, would approach the Blessed One and ask questions according as they had been specially perpared (yathābhisaṅkhata) comprising even the four tones of letters (caturakkharaṃ) also.

В среднюю (вторую) стражу божества из всей стотысячной сферы миров получив возможность, подойдя к Благословенному задают вопросы сколько заготовлено, состоящие даже из всего четырёх тонов букв.

Bhagavā tāsaṃ devatānaṃ pañhaṃ vissajjento majjhimayāmaṃ vītināmeti.
|
Answering the questions of those divine-beings, the Blessed One would spend the middle watch of the night.

Благословенный, отвечая на вопросы этих божеств, проводит среднюю стражу ночи.

Tato pacchimayāmaṃ cattāro bhāge katvā ekaṃ bhāgaṃ caṅkamaṃ adhiṭṭhāti, dutiyabhāgaṃ gandhakuṭiṃ pavisitvā dakkhiṇena passena sato sampajāno sīhaseyyaṃ kappeti, tatiyabhāgaṃ phalasamāpattiyā vītināmeti, catutthabhāgaṃ mahākaruṇāsamāpattiṃ pavisitvā buddhacakkhunā lokaṃ voloketi apparajakkhamahārajakkhādisattadassanatthaṃ.

Thereafter, Buddha would divide the last watch of the night into four portions and make his resolution to walk to and fro for one portion; He would lie down like a lion with awareness and thoughtfulness (sato sampajāno) on his right side for the second portion, after having entered his fragrant chamber; He would spend the third portion with phalasamāpatti (the trance of fruition meditation); in the fourth portion, Buddha would enter mahākaruṇāsamāpatti (the trance of meditation on great compassion) and look at the world with his Buddha-eye for the purpose of sighting living being who are apparajakkha (with little dust of lust in their eyes) and mahārajakkha (with much dust of lust in their eyes), etc,;

Тогда в последнюю стражу ночи, разделив её на четыре периода в течение одного периода занимается ходьбой, во второй период, войдя в благоухающую келью, лёжа на правом боку, памятующий и осознающий он принимает позу льва, третий период он проводит в медитативном состоянии плода, в четвёртый период он погружается в медитацию великого сострадания и осматривает мир оком Будды, с целью увидеть существ с малым количеством пыли в глазах и с большим количеством пыли в глазах.
