436.Tena kho pana samayena bhikkhuniyo cuṇṇena nahāyanti.

Now at that time nuns bathed with chunam.
|

Manussā ujjhāyanti khiyyanti vipācenti - pe - seyyathāpi gihinī kāmabhoginiyoti.
|
People looked down upon, criticised, spread it about, saying: “Like women householders who enjoy pleasures of the senses.”
|
|
|
Bhagavato etamatthaṃ ārocesuṃ.
|
They told this matter to the Lord.
|
|
|
"Na, bhikkhave, bhikkhuniyā cuṇṇena nahāyitabbaṃ.
|
He said: “Monks, nuns should not bathe with chunam.
|
|
|
Yā nahāyeyya, āpatti dukkaṭassa.
|
Whoever should (so) bathe, there is an offence of wrong-doing.
|
|
|
Anujānāmi, bhikkhave, kukkusaṃ mattika"nti.
|
I allow them, monks, the red powder of rice husks and clay. ”
