Tena kho pana samayena bhikkhuniyo vāsitakāya mattikāya nahāyanti.

Now at that time nuns bathed with scented clay.

Manussā ujjhāyanti khiyyanti vipācenti - pe - seyyathāpi gihinī kāmabhoginiyoti.

People … spread it about, saying: “Like women householders who enjoy pleasures of the senses.”

Bhagavato etamatthaṃ ārocesuṃ.
|
They told this matter to the Lord.
|

"Na, bhikkhave, bhikkhuniyā vāsitakāya mattikāya nahāyitabbaṃ.
|
He said: “ Monks, nuns should not bathe with scented clay.
|
|
|
Yā nahāyeyya, āpatti dukkaṭassa.
|
Whoever should (so) bathe, there is an offence of wrong-doing.
|
|
|
Anujānāmi, bhikkhave, pakatimattika"nti.
|
I allow, them, monks, ordinary clay. ”
