"Puna caparaṃ, bhikkhave, sāriputto sabbaso viññāṇañcāyatanaṃ samatikkamma 'natthi kiñcī'ti ākiñcaññāyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati.

15. "Again, bhikkhus, by completely surmounting the base of infinite consciousness, aware that 'there is nothing,' Sariputta entered upon and abided in the base of nothingness.

Ye ca ākiñcaññāyatane dhammā – ākiñcaññāyatanasaññā ca cittekaggatā ca, phasso vedanā saññā cetanā cittaṃ chando adhimokkho vīriyaṃ sati upekkhā manasikāro – tyāssa dhammā anupadavavatthitā honti.

16. "And the states in the base of nothingness - the perception of the base of nothingness and the unification of mind; the con-tact, feeling, perception, volition, and mind; the zeal, decision, energy, mindfulness, equanimity, and attention - these states were defined by him one by one as they occurred;

Tyāssa dhammā viditā uppajjanti, viditā upaṭṭhahanti, viditā abbhatthaṃ gacchanti.
|
known to him those states arose, known they were present, known they disappeared.
|

|
So evaṃ pajānāti – 'evaṃ kirame dhammā ahutvā sambhonti, hutvā paṭiventī'ti.
|
He understood thus:...

So tesu dhammesu anupāyo anapāyo anissito appaṭibaddho vippamutto visaṃyutto vimariyādīkatena cetasā viharati.
|
|

|
So 'atthi uttari nissaraṇa'nti pajānāti.
|
|

Tabbahulīkārā atthitvevassa hoti.
|
and with the cultivation of that [attainment], he confirmed that there is.
