"Puna caparaṃ, bhikkhave, sāriputto sabbaso rūpasaññānaṃ samatikkamā paṭighasaññānaṃ atthaṅgamā nānattasaññānaṃ amanasikārā 'ananto ākāso'ti ākāsānañcāyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati.

11. "Again, bhikkhus, with the complete surmounting of perceptions of form, with the disappearance of perceptions of sensory impact, with non-attention to perceptions of diversity, aware that 'space is infinite,' Sariputta entered upon and abided in the base of infinite space.

Ye ca ākāsānañcāyatane dhammā – ākāsānañcāyatanasaññā ca cittekaggatā ca phasso vedanā saññā cetanā cittaṃ chando adhimokkho vīriyaṃ sati upekkhā manasikāro – tyāssa dhammā anupadavavatthitā honti.

"And the states in the base of infinite space - the percep-tion of the base of infinite space and the unification of mind; the contact, feeling, perception, volition, and mind; the zeal, decision, energy, mindfulness, equanimity, and attention - these states were defined by him one by one as they occurred;

Tyāssa dhammā viditā uppajjanti, viditā upaṭṭhahanti, viditā abbhatthaṃ gacchanti.
|
known to him those states arose, known they were present, known they disappeared.

So evaṃ pajānāti – 'evaṃ kirame dhammā ahutvā sambhonti, hutvā paṭiventī'ti.
|
He understood thus:...

So tesu dhammesu anupāyo anapāyo anissito appaṭibaddho vippamutto visaṃyutto vimariyādīkatena cetasā viharati.
|

|
So 'atthi uttari nissaraṇa'nti pajānāti.
|
|
|
|
Tabbahulīkārā atthitvevassa hoti.
|
and with the cultivation of that [attainment], he confirmed that there is.
