Idhānanda, bhikkhu araññagato vā rukkhamūlagato vā suññāgāragato vā iti paṭisañcikkhati – 'etaṃ santaṃ etaṃ paṇītaṃ yadidaṃ sabbasaṅkhārasamatho sabbūpadhippaṭinissaggo taṇhākkhayo virāgo nibbāna'nti.

idhānanda bhikkhu arañña'gato vā rukkha'mūla'gato vā suññāgāra'gato vā iti paṭisañcikkhati: etaṃ santaṃ etaṃ paṇītaṃ yadidaṃ sabba'saṅkhāra'samatho sabbūpadhi'paṭinissaggo taṇha'kkhayo virāgo nibbānanti

Here, Ānanda, a bhikkhu, gone to the forest, or to the root of a tree, or to an empty place, considers thus: This is peaceful, this is sublime, that is to say the stilling of all formations, the relinquishing of every substratum of becoming, the destruction of craving, fading away, Nibbāna.

There is the case where a monk — having gone to the wilderness, to the shade of a tree, or to an empty building — reflects thus: 'This is peace, this is exquisite — the stilling of all fabrications, the relinquishment of all acquisitions, the ending of craving, dispassion, Unbinding.'
