Manussā tatheva ujjhāyanti khiyyanti vipācenti – "kathañhi nāma samaṇā sakyaputtiyā hemantampi gimhampi vassampi cārikaṃ carissanti, haritāni tiṇāni sammaddantā, ekindriyaṃ jīvaṃ viheṭhentā, bahū khuddake pāṇe saṅghātaṃ āpādentā.

People … spread it about, saying: “How can these recluses, sons of the Sakyans, walk on tour during the cold weather and the hot weather and the rains, trampling down … as in Kd.3.1.2 … bringing many small creatures to destruction?’

Because of that, people criticized and complained and spread it about, “How can the Sakyan-son contemplatives go on walking tours in the hot season, the cold season, and the rainy season—crushing crops and grasses, harming one-facultied life, bringing many small creatures to destruction?
|
Люди стали относиться с презрением, критиковать и распространять: "Как могут эти отшельники, потомки Сакьев, странствовать в холодное время года, в жаркое время года и во время дождей, топча зерновые культуры и растения, повреждая живое существо с одной способностью восприятия и приводя к смерти многих мелких существ?

“Even these wanderers of other religions with poorly-expounded Dhammas stick to one place and stay put for the Rains-residence.

Even the little birds, having made nests in the tops of trees stick to one place and stay put for the Rains-residence.

как возможно, что птицы, свившие себе гнёзда на верхушках деревьев, готовят жилище для сезона дождей и придерживаются его,

Monks heard these people who … spread it about.
|
The monks heard the people criticizing and complaining and spreading it about.

Монахи услышали как эти люди презирают, критикуют и распространяют [это].

Ye te bhikkhū appicchā - pe - te ujjhāyanti khiyyanti vipācenti – "kathañhi nāma chabbaggiyā bhikkhū vassaṃ upagantvā antarāvassaṃ cārikaṃ carissantī"ti?
|
Those who were modest monks … spread it about, saying: “How can this group of six monks, having entered upon the rains, walk on tour during the rains?”
|
Those monks who were modest criticized and complained and spread it about: “How can the Group-of-six monks, having entered for the Rains, go on a walking tour during the Rains?”
|
Те монахи, что довольствовались малым... презирали, критиковали и распространяли: "Как монахи "группы шести" войдя в сезон дождей странствовать во время этого периода?".

Atha kho te bhikkhū bhagavato etamatthaṃ ārocesuṃ.
|
Then these monks told this matter to the Lord.
|
Then the monks reported the matter to the Blessed One.
|
Тогда те монахи рассказали об этом Благословенному.
|

Atha kho bhagavā etasmiṃ nidāne etasmiṃ pakaraṇe dhammiṃ kathaṃ katvā bhikkhū āmantesi – "na, bhikkhave, vassaṃ upagantvā purimaṃ vā temāsaṃ pacchimaṃ vā temāsaṃ avasitvā cārikā pakkamitabbā.
|
Then the Lord, on this occasion, in this connection, having given reasoned talk, addressed the monks, saying: “Monks, having entered upon the rains, but not having kept either the first three months or the last three months, one should not set out on tour.
|
Then the Blessed One, having given a Dhamma talk with regard to this cause, to this incident, addressed the monks: “Monks, having entered for the Rains, one should not set out on a walking tour without having stayed either the first three months or the last three months.
|
Тогда Благословенный в этой связи, в этом отношении, проведя осмысленную беседу, обратился к монахам со словами: "Монахи, войдя в сезон дождей, но не соблюдая его в течение первых трёх месяцев или последних трёх месяцев, монаху не следует отправляться в странствие.

Yo pakkameyya, āpatti dukkaṭassā"ti.
|
Whoever should (thus) set out, there is an offence of wrong-doing.”
|
Whoever should set out: an offense of wrong doing.”
|
Тому, кто (при этом) отправится в странствие, засчитать нарушение "дурной поступок"".
