Bodhisattopi rañño paṭiññaṃ datvā anupubbena cārikaṃ caramāno āḷārañca kālāmaṃ udakañca rāmaputtaṃ upasaṅkamitvā samāpattiyo nibbattetvā "nāyaṃ maggo bodhāyā"ti tampi samāpattibhāvanaṃ analaṅkaritvā sadevakassa lokassa attano thāmavīriyasandassanatthaṃ mahāpadhānaṃ padahitukāmo uruvelaṃ gantvā "ramaṇīyo vatāyaṃ bhūmibhāgo"ti tattheva vāsaṃ upagantvā mahāpadhānaṃ padahi.

And the Bodisat, granting the king s request, went forward on his way. And joining himself to Alara Kalama, and to Uddaka, son of Rama, he acquired their systems of ecstatic trance. But when he saw that that was not the way to enlightenment, he left off applying himself to the realization of that system of Attainment. And with the intention of carrying out the Great Struggle against sin, and showing his might and resolution to devas and men, he went to Uruvela. And saying : " Pleasant, indeed, is this spot ! " he took up his residence there, and devoted himself to the Great Struggle. |

И, согласившись с предложенным раджой уговором, Бодхисатта пошел своей дорогой. Он пошёл к Аларе Каламе и Уддаке Рамапутте и обрёл преподаваемые ими достижения. Однако он не был удовлетворён этими состояниями, поняв, что они не ведут к Постижению. И с намерением приложить великое усилие, демонстрируя своё устремление людям и божествам, он отправился в Урувелу. Сказав "Прекрасное место!" он выбрал для проживания это место и посвятил себя великому усилию. |
