Evaṃ khittacittānaṃ etesaṃ urampi phāleti, pādepi ne gahetvā pāragaṅgāya khipati "māssu me puna evarūpā bhavanamāgamiṃsū"ti, tasmā te pañhe saritvā "yaṃnūnāhaṃ imaṃ samaṇaṃ idāni evaṃ viheṭheyya"nti cintetvā āha "pañhaṃ taṃ samaṇā"tiādi.

in this way, he sued to split open (phāleti) the chest (ura) also of these demented individuals; after having seized them by their legs (pāda), he used to throw (khipati) them to the other bank of the river (pāragaṅgā) saying : “Do not be again such people as had come to my dwelling (bhavana);” therefore, after having remembered those questions, the ogre Āḷavaka, after having thought thus:– “What if I were to be hostile (viheṭheti) to this monk, now, in this way,” said thus starting with “Pañhaṃ taṃ samaṇa (Question to you, O monk!). |
