Ayaṃ pana yasmā "iddhimanto bhiṃsanakarūpadassanena na tasantī"ti ñatvā attano iddhippabhāvena sukhumattabhāvaṃ nimminitvā, tesaṃ anto pavisitvā hadayavatthuṃ parimaddati, tato cittasantati na saṇṭhāti, tassā asaṇṭhamānāya ummattakā honti khittacittā.

this ogre (ayaṃ), on the other hand, since he had come to know thus: “Those who are possessors of magical powers (iddhi) do not shiver (tasanti) at the sight (dassanena) of frightful forms (bhiṃsanakarūpa), used to create himself (nimminitvā) by means of his own magical powers (iddhi) of mignt (pabhāva) into a subtly minute body (sukhumattabhāva), enter their inside (anta) and crush (parimaddati) their hadayavatthu (the substance of the heart); consequent upon that the cittasantati (continuity of consciousness of the mind of the victim) does not become settled (na saṇṭahāti); on it’s being unsettled (asaṇṭhamāna), they become mad men (ummattaka) and khittacitta (out of their minds or demented); |
