Chandassa mūlalakkhaṇaṃ.

Desire has the characteristics of being the root;

Manasikārassa samuṭṭhāpanalakkhaṇaṃ.

attention, of being the originator;
|

|
Phassassa samodhānalakkhaṇaṃ.
|
contact, of collecting together;
|
|
|
Vedanāya samosaraṇalakkhaṇaṃ.
|
feeling, of convergence;
|
|
|
Samādhissa pamukhalakkhaṇaṃ.
|
concentration, of eminence;
|
|
|
Satiyā ādhipateyyalakkhaṇaṃ.
|
mindfulness, of predominance;
|
|
|
Paññāya tatuttariyalakkhaṇaṃ.
|
wisdom, of supremacy;
|
|
|
Vimuttiyā sāralakkhaṇaṃ… amatogadhassa nibbānassa pariyosānalakkhaṇaṃ tathaṃ avitathaṃ.
|
emancipation, of being the essence; and nibbāna, the plunge into the deathless, of being the consummation. All these characteristics are real, not unreal.

Evaṃ tathalakkhaṇaṃ ñāṇagatiyā āgato avirajjhitvā patto anuppattoti tathāgato.
|
Through the movement of his faculty of knowledge he has come to the real characteristic (of all dhammas); he has reached it without falling away from it, fully arrived at it—therefore he is the Tathāgata.

|
Evaṃ tathalakkhaṇaṃ āgatoti tathāgato.
|
Thus he is the Tathāgata because he has come to the real characteristic.
