Chandassa mūlalakkhaṇaṃ. Desire has the characteristics of being the root;
Manasikārassa samuṭṭhāpanalakkhaṇaṃ. attention, of being the originator;
Phassassa samodhānalakkhaṇaṃ. contact, of collecting together;
Vedanāya samosaraṇalakkhaṇaṃ. feeling, of convergence;
Samādhissa pamukhalakkhaṇaṃ. concentration, of eminence;
Satiyā ādhipateyyalakkhaṇaṃ. mindfulness, of predominance;
Paññāya tatuttariyalakkhaṇaṃ. wisdom, of supremacy;
Vimuttiyā sāralakkhaṇaṃ… amatogadhassa nibbānassa pariyosānalakkhaṇaṃ tathaṃ avitathaṃ. emancipation, of being the essence; and nibbāna, the plunge into the deathless, of being the consummation. All these characteristics are real, not unreal.
Evaṃ tathalakkhaṇaṃ ñāṇagatiyā āgato avirajjhitvā patto anuppattoti tathāgato. Through the movement of his faculty of knowledge he has come to the real characteristic (of all dhammas); he has reached it without falling away from it, fully arrived at it—therefore he is the Tathāgata.
Evaṃ tathalakkhaṇaṃ āgatoti tathāgato. Thus he is the Tathāgata because he has come to the real characteristic.
