Then it occurred to monks: “Now, is (food that may be eaten) during a watch of the night allowable with (food that may be eaten) during a short period, or it is not allowable?
|
Then the thought occurred to the monks, “Is it allowable—night-watch-time1 (juice) with right-time (food)—or is it not allowable?
|
Comm. KT: 1. yāma usually refers to one of the three watches of the night. Here it means from noon until the following dawn.

Monks, (food that may be eaten) during life with (food that may be eaten) during seven days is allowable for (the length of) seven days; it is not allowable after the seven days are ended.”
