[Kha] kathaṃ vedanāsu vedanānupassī viharati?
41. How does he dwell contemplating feelings as feelings?
Idhekacco sukhaṃ vedanaṃ aniccato anupassati, no niccato - pe - paṭinissajjati, no ādiyati.
Here someone contemplates pleasant feeling as impermanent, not as permanent,...
Aniccato anupassanto niccasaññaṃ pajahati - pe - paṭinissajjanto ādānaṃ pajahati.
he abandons grasping.
Imehi sattahi ākārehi vedanaṃ anupassati.
42. He contemplates feelings in these seven aspects.
Vedanā upaṭṭhānaṃ, no sati.
The feeling is the establishment (foundation), but it is not the mindfulness.
Sati upaṭṭhānañceva sati ca.
Mindfulness is both the establishment (foundation) and the mindfulness.
Tāya satiyā tena ñāṇena taṃ vedanaṃ anupassati.
By means of that mindfulness and that knowledge he contemplates that feeling.
Tena vuccati – "vedanāsu vedanānupassanāsatipaṭṭhānā".
Hence 'Development of the Foundation (Establishment) of Mindfulness consisting in contemplation of feeling as feelings' is said. <cf. Tr.III §294>
