Tattha ye diṭṭhicaritā sattā, te dvidhā mudindriyā ca tikkhindriyā ca.

1049. Herein, creatures of view temperament are of two kinds : with blunt faculties and with keen faculties.
|

Tattha ye diṭṭhicaritā sattā tikkhindriyā sukhena paṭinissajjanti, khippañca abhisamenti, tena vuccati "khippābhiññā sukhā paṭipadā"ti.
|
Herein, creatures of view temperament with keen faculties renounce with pleasure and actualize swiftly, hence ''pleasant way with swift acquaintanceship '' is said.

Tattha ye diṭṭhicaritā sattā mudindriyā paṭhamaṃ tikkhindriyaṃ upādāya dandhataraṃ abhisamenti, te sukhena paṭinissajjanti, dandhañca abhisamenti.
|
And herein, since creatures of view temperament with blunt faculties actualize more sluggishly as compared with the first[-mentioned kind] with keen faculties, they renounce with pleasure and actualize sluggishly,
|
|
Tena vuccati "sukhā paṭipadā dandhābhiññā"ti.
|
hence "pleasant way with sluggish acquaintanceship" is said.

Tattha taṇhācaritā sattā dvidhā tikkhindriyā ca mudindriyā ca.
|
Herein, creatures of craving temperament are of two kinds : with keen faculties and with blunt faculties.
|
|
Tattha ye taṇhācaritā sattā tikkhindriyā dukkhena paṭinissajjanti, khippañca abhisamenti.
|
Herein, creatures of craving temperament with keen faculties renounce with pain and actualize swiftly,
|
|
Tena vuccati "dukkhā paṭipadā khippābhiññā"ti.
|
hence "painful way with swift acquaintanceship" is said.

Imā catasso paṭipadāyo apañcamā achaṭṭhā.

1050. These are the four Ways (D.iii, 228), with no fifth and no sixth.
|

Ye hi keci nibbutā nibbāyissanti vā imāhi catūhi paṭipadāhi anaññāhi ayaṃ paṭipadācatukkena kilese niddisati.
|
Whoever they 1 are that have attained extinction or will attain extinction, it is by these four Ways, not by any other. 1051. This Way, having been demonstrated 1 in defilement by a tetrad [thus],

Yā catukkamaggena ariyadhammesu niddisitabbā, ayaṃ vuccati sīhavikkīḷito nāma nayo.
|
can be demonstrated in the Noble Ideas by a tetrad-path. This is called (I) the Play-of-Lions Guide-Line.
