"Yathā vā pana, mahārāja, puriso ahikukkuramanussakuṇapasarīravaḷañjakoṭṭhāsarāsigato kuṇapajaṭājaṭitantaramanupaviṭṭho vāyāmena tato muñcitvā nikkuṇapokāsaṃ pavisitvā tattha paramasukhaṃ labheyya, evameva kho, mahārāja, yo sammāpaṭipanno, so yoniso manasikārena byapagatakilesakuṇapaṃ paramasukhaṃ nibbānaṃ sacchikaroti.

“Or, sire, as if a man were on a filthy heap of corpses of snakes, dogs and men, and he were entangled in the matted hair of the corpses, but on getting free from there with an effort and entering a place where there were no corpses he would obtain the highest happiness there—even so, sire, does he who is practising rightly realize by means of proper attention the highest happiness, Nibbāna, the corpses of the defilements departed.

‘Or again, O king, as a man fallen into a pit full of the dead bodies of snakes and dogs and men, of ordure, and of refuse, when, finding himself in the midst of it entangled in the hair of the corpses, he had by a violent effort escaped into a place where no dead bodies were, would experience supreme bliss—just so whosoever orders his life aright, he by his careful thinking will realise the supreme bliss of Nirvāṇa, from which the corpses of all evil dispositions have been removed.

Или, представь, государь, что человек очутился посреди кучи трупов змей, петухов и людей792, в груде туловищ, хвостов и кусков падали и завален в непроходимом завале из трупов. Напрягшись, он вырвался оттуда, добрался до места, где нет трупов, и счастлив тем безмерно. Вот точно так же, государь, истинно-делающий осуществляет своим подлинным вниманием нирвану, удаленную от падали аффектов.

Yathā, mahārāja, kuṇapaṃ, evaṃ pañca kāmaguṇā daṭṭhabbā; yathā kuṇapagato puriso, evaṃ sammāpaṭipanno daṭṭhabbo; yathā nikkuṇapokāso, evaṃ nibbānaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ.

As the corpses, sire, so are the five strands of sense pleasures to be understood. As the man among the corpses, so is he who is practising rightly to be understood. As the place where there are no corpses, so is Nibbāna to be understood.

As a corpse, O king, so should you regard the four pleasures of sense, as the man fallen among corpses the man who is ordering his life aright, as the place free from corpses Nirvāṇa.
