"Tasmiṃ yeva gaṅgākūle ṭhitā bandhumatī nāma gaṇikā assosi raññā kira evaṃ vuttaṃ 'sakkā nu kho imaṃ mahāgaṅgaṃ paṭisotaṃ sandāpetu'nti, sā evamāha 'ahañhi nagare pāṭaliputte gaṇikā rūpūpajīvinī antimajīvikā, mama tāva rājā saccakiriyaṃ passatū'ti.

‘Now a certain courtesan, Bindumatī by name, was in the crowd there at the river side, and she heard people repeat the question that the king had asked. Then she said to herself: “Here am I, a harlot, in this city of Pāṭaliputta, by the sale of my body do I gain my livelihood, I follow the meanest of vocations. Let the king behold the power of an Act of Truth performed even by such as I.”

А там же, на берегу Ганги, стояла некая блудница, Биндуматия по имени, и она услыхала эти слова царя: «Возможно ли повернуть вспять великую Гангу? » Она промолвила: «Вот я, из города Паталипутры блудница, своею красотой живущая, худшим из ремесел занимаюсь. Пусть же узрит царь мое заклятие».

Atha sā saccakiriyaṃ akāsi, saha tassā saccakiriyāya khaṇena sā mahāgaṅgā gaḷagaḷāyantī paṭisotaṃ sandittha mahato janakāyassa passato.
|
And she performed an Act of Truth. And that moment the mighty Ganges, roaring and raging, rolled back, up stream, in the sight of all the people!

И она поклялась правдой. Стоило ей поклясться, как в тот же миг на глазах у огромной толпы великая Ганга заклокотала и хлынула вспять.
