242.Evaṃ me sutaṃ – ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā rājagahe viharati veḷuvane kalandakanivāpe.

This is what I heard. 1. On one occasion, the Buddha[1] was living near the town of Rajagaha[2] at a spot in the Bamboo Grove called the Squirrel's Feeding Place.

Thus have I heard. Once the Lord was staying at Rajagaha, at the Squirrels' Feeding Place in the Bamboo Grove.

Tena kho pana samayena siṅgālako [sigālako (sī.)] gahapatiputto kālasseva uṭṭhāya rājagahā nikkhamitvā allavattho allakeso pañjaliko puthudisā [puthuddisā (sī. syā. pī.)] namassati – puratthimaṃ disaṃ dakkhiṇaṃ disaṃ pacchimaṃ disaṃ uttaraṃ disaṃ heṭṭhimaṃ disaṃ uparimaṃ disaṃ.

At that time a young householder named Sigalaka arose early and set out from Rajagaha with freshly washed clothes and hair. [3] With palms together held up in reverence,[4] he was paying respect towards the six directions:[5] that is east, south, west, north, lower and upper.

And at that time Sigalaka the householder's son, having got up early and gone out of Rajagaha, was paying homage, with wet clothes and hair and with joined palms, to the different directions: to the east, the south, the west, the north, the nadir and the zenith.

В то время Сингалака - сын домохозяина, поднявшись рано утром, выйдя из Раджагахи, с влажной одеждой и влажными волосами, поклонялся соединёнными вместе руками различным сторонам света - востоку, югу, западу, северу, надиру и зениту.

и в это самое время сын домоправителя Сингалака, рано встав и выйдя из Раджагахи, с влажными одеждами и влажными волосами, сложив ладони, стал совершать поклонение перед [разными] сторонами света — восточной стороной, южной стороной, западной стороной, северной стороной, нижней стороной и верхней стороной.
