230.Atha kho kosinārakā mallā āyasmantaṃ ānandaṃ etadavocuṃ – "kathaṃ mayaṃ, bhante ānanda, tathāgatassa sarīre paṭipajjāmā"ti?

24. Then the Mallas of Kusinara spoke to the Venerable Ananda, saying: "How should we act, Venerable Ananda, respecting the body of the Tathagata? "
|
Then the Kusinārā Mallans said to Ven. Ānanda, “Venerable sir, what course should we follow with regard to the Tathāgata’s body? ”

6.17.Then they asked the Venerable Ananda: 'Lord, how should we deal with the body of the Tathagata?
|
Тогда кусинарские маллы так сказали почтенному Ананде: "О досточтимый Ананда, как нам следует поступить с телом Татхагаты?"

6.17. И тогда кусинарийские маллы так сказали достопочтенному Ананде: «Как, господин Ананда, нам обращаться с телом Татхагаты?»

"Yathā kho, vāseṭṭhā, rañño cakkavattissa sarīre paṭipajjanti, evaṃ tathāgatassa sarīre paṭipajjitabba"nti.

"After the same manner, Vasetthas, as towards the body of a universal monarch."
|
“The course they follow with regard to a wheel-turning monarch’s body, Vāsiṭṭhas, is the course that should be followed with regard to the Tathāgata’s body. ”
|
' 'Vasetthas, you should deal with the Tathagata's body as you would that of a wheel-turning monarch.'
|
"Так, вассетхи, как поступают с телом поворачивающего колесо царя, так же должно поступить и с телом Татхагаты."
|
«Как, васеттхи, обращаются с телом царя — владыки мира, так же следует обращаться с телом Татхагаты».

“And what, venerable sir, is the course they follow with regard to a wheel-turning monarch’s body? ”

'And how do they deal with that, Lord?

"Но как, о досточтимый Ананда, поступают с телом поворачивающего колесо царя?"

"Rañño, vāseṭṭhā, cakkavattissa sarīraṃ ahatena vatthena veṭhenti, ahatena vatthena veṭhetvā vihatena kappāsena veṭhenti, vihatena kappāsena veṭhetvā ahatena vatthena veṭhenti.
|
"The body of a universal monarch, Vasetthas, is first wrapped round with new linen, and then with teased cotton wool. And again it is wrapped round with new linen, and again with teased cotton wool, and so it is done up to five hundred layers of linen and five hundred of cotton wool.
|
“Vāsiṭṭhas, they wrap the wheel-turning monarch’s body in new linen cloth. Having wrapped it in new linen cloth, they wrap it in teased cotton-wool. Having wrapped it in teased cotton-wool, they wrap it in new linen cloth.
|
'Vasetthas, the remains are wrapped in a new linen-cloth. This they wrap in teased cotton-wool...;

"Тело поворачивающего колесо царя, васеттхи, обёртывают новой льняной тканью, и обернув новой льняной тканью, оборачивают чёсаным хлопком. Обернув чёсаным хлопком, оборачивают новой льняной тканью.

«Тело царя — владыки мира — окутывают, васеттхи, новым одеянием; окутав новым одеянием, окутывают [его] чесаной хлопчатой тканью; окутав чесаной хлопчатой тканью, окутывают [его снова] новым одеянием.

Etena upāyena pañcahi yugasatehi rañño cakkavattissa sarīraṃ veṭhetvā āyasāya teladoṇiyā pakkhipitvā aññissā āyasāya doṇiyā paṭikujjitvā sabbagandhānaṃ citakaṃ karitvā rañño cakkavattissa sarīraṃ jhāpenti.
|
When that is done, the body of the universal monarch is placed in an iron oil-vessel, which is enclosed in another iron vessel and a funeral pyre is built of all kinds of perfumed woods, and so the body of the universal monarch is burned.
|
Having done this five hundred times, they place the body in an iron oil-vat, cover it with an iron lid, make a pyre composed totally of perfumed substances, and cremate the body.
|
then having made a funeral-pyre of all manner of perfumes, they cremate the king's body
|
Обернув таким образом тело поворачивающего колесо царя пятьюстами слоями обоих видов, его помещают в металлическое корыто с маслом и покрывают другим металлическим корытом. Затем сооружают погребальный костёр полностью из благовонных материалов и сжигают тело поворачивающего колесо царя.

Cātumahāpathe rañño cakkavattissa thūpaṃ karonti.
|
And at a crossroads a stupa is raised for the universal monarch.
|
Then they build a burial mound for the wheel-turning monarch at a great four-way intersection.
|
and they raise a stupa at a cross roads
|
На пересечении дорог воздвигают ступу поворачивающему колесо царю.
|
и сооружают на перекрестке надгробие царя — владыки мира.
|
|

Evaṃ kho, vāseṭṭhā, rañño cakkavattissa sarīre paṭipajjanti.
|
So it is done, Vasetthas, with the body of a universal monarch.
|
That is the course that they follow with regard to the wheel-turning monarch’s body.

Cātumahāpathe tathāgatassa thūpo kātabbo.
|

Tattha ye mālaṃ vā gandhaṃ vā cuṇṇakaṃ vā āropessanti vā abhivādessanti vā cittaṃ vā pasādessanti, tesaṃ taṃ bhavissati dīgharattaṃ hitāya sukhāyā"ti.
|
And whoever shall bring to that place garlands or incense or sandalwood paste, or pay reverence, and whose mind becomes calm there — it will be to his well being and happiness for a long time."
|
And those who offer a garland, a scent, or a perfume powder there, or bow down there, or brighten their minds there: that will be for their long-term welfare & happiness. ”
|
|
И тот, кто принесёт к ней цветы, благоуханные вещества или сандаловый порошок, или выразит почтение или чей ум успокоится – тому это принесёт благо и счастье надолго."
|
И те, кто возложат там венок, или благовоние, или красочное [украшение], или произнесут приветствие, или умиротворятся сердцем, надолго обретут благополучие и счастье».

нет, связка vā "или". Тут идея в том, что благо будет не только от подношений памятнику, но даже просто если ум успокоится при виде памятника.

25. Then the Mallas gave orders to their men, saying: "Gather now all the teased cotton wool of the Mallas!"
|
So the Kusinārā Mallans ordered their men, “In that case, I say, gather the Mallans’ teased cotton-wool. ”

6.18.Then the Mallas ordered their men to bring their teased cotton-wool.
|
И тогда кусинарские маллы приказали слугам: "Раз так, слуги, соберите чёсаный хлопок маллов".
