228.Tena kho pana samayena aṭṭha mallapāmokkhā sīsaṃnhātā ahatāni vatthāni nivatthā "mayaṃ bhagavato sarīraṃ uccāressāmā"ti na sakkonti uccāretuṃ.
|
And eight Mallas of the foremost families, bathed from the crown of their heads and wearing new clothes, with the thought: "We will lift up the body of the Blessed One," tried to do so but they could not.
|
Then eight leading Mallans, having bathed their heads and wearing new linen cloth, thinking, “We’ll lift up the Blessed One’s body,” were unable to lift it.
|
Then eight Malla chiefs, having washed their heads and put on new clothes, declared: 'Now we will lift up the Lord's body', but found they were unable to do so.
|
Затем восемь предводителей маллов омыв голову и одев новые одежды, думая: "Мы поднимем тело Благословенного" не смогли поднять его.

И в это самое время восемь предводителей маллов, омыв голову и надев новые одежды, [решили]: «Мы поднимем [и понесем] тело Благостного», — и не смогли поднять [его].

Atha kho kosinārakā mallā āyasmantaṃ anuruddhaṃ etadavocuṃ – "ko nu kho, bhante anuruddha, hetu ko paccayo, yenime aṭṭha mallapāmokkhā sīsaṃnhātā ahatāni vatthāni nivatthā 'mayaṃ bhagavato sarīraṃ uccāressāmā'ti na sakkonti uccāretu"nti?

22. Then the Mallas spoke to the Venerable Anuruddha, saying: "What is the cause, Venerable Anuruddha, what is the reason that these eight Mallas of the foremost families, bathed from the crown of their heads and wearing new clothes, with the thought: 'We will lift up the body of the Blessed One,' try to do so but cannot? "

So the Kusinārā Mallans asked Ven. Anuruddha, “What is the reason, Ven. Anuruddha, what is the cause, why these eight leading Mallans, having bathed their heads and wearing new linen cloth, thinking, ‘We’ll lift up the Blessed One’s body,’ are unable to lift it? ”
|
So they went to the Venerable Anuruddha and told him what had happened: 'Why can't we lift up the Lord's body?

И тогда кусинарские маллы так сказали почтенному Ануруддхе: "О досточтимый Ануруддха, какова причина, каково условие, по которому эти восемь предводителей маллов омыв голову и одев новые одежды, думая: "Мы поднимем тело Благословенного" не смогли поднять его?"

И тогда кусинарийские маллы так сказали достопочтенному Ануруддхе: «Какова, господин, причина, каково основание, по которому эти восемь предводителей маллов, омывших голову, надевших новые одежды [и решивших]: „Мы поднимем тело Благостного“, — не смогли поднять его?»

"Aññathā kho, vāseṭṭhā, tumhākaṃ adhippāyo, aññathā devatānaṃ adhippāyo"ti.
|
"You, Vasetthas, have one purpose, the deities have another."
|
“Your intention, Vāsiṭṭhas, is one thing. The devas’ intention is another.”
|
' 'Vasetthas, your intention is one thing, but the intention of the devas is another.'
|
"У вас, васеттхи, одно намерение, у божеств - другое".
|
«Ведь у вас, васеттхи, одно намерение, а у божеств — другое намерение».

"Kathaṃ pana, bhante, devatānaṃ adhippāyo"ti?
|
"Then what, venerable sir, is the purpose of the deities? "
|
“But what, Ven. Anuruddha, is the devas’ intention? ”
|
6.15.'Lord, what is the intention of the devas?
|
"Но каково же, о досточтимый, намерение божеств?"
|
6.15. «Какое же, господин, намерение у божеств?»

"Tumhākaṃ kho, vāseṭṭhā, adhippāyo – 'mayaṃ bhagavato sarīraṃ naccehi gītehi vāditehi mālehi gandhehi sakkarontā garuṃ karontā mānentā pūjentā dakkhiṇena dakkhiṇaṃ nagarassa haritvā bāhirena bāhiraṃ dakkhiṇato nagarassa bhagavato sarīraṃ jhāpessāmā'ti; devatānaṃ kho, vāseṭṭhā, adhippāyo – 'mayaṃ bhagavato sarīraṃ dibbehi naccehi gītehi vāditehi gandhehi sakkarontā garuṃ karontā mānentā pūjentā uttarena uttaraṃ nagarassa haritvā uttarena dvārena nagaraṃ pavesetvā majjhena majjhaṃ nagarassa haritvā puratthimena dvārena nikkhamitvā puratthimato nagarassa makuṭabandhanaṃ nāma mallānaṃ cetiyaṃ ettha bhagavato sarīraṃ jhāpessāmā'ti.

"Your purpose, Vasetthas, is this: 'We have paid homage to the body of the Blessed One with dance, song, music, flower-garlands, and perfume, and have shown respect, honor, and veneration; let us now carry the body of the Blessed One southward to the southern part of the town and beyond, and let us there cremate the body of the Blessed One south of the town.' But the purpose of the deities, Vasetthas, is this: 'We have paid homage to the body of the Blessed One with heavenly dance, song, music, flower-garlands, and perfume, and have shown respect, honor, and veneration; let us now carry the body of the Blessed One northward to the northern part of the town; and having carried it through the northern gate, let us go through the center of the town, and then eastward to the east of the town; and having passed through the east gate, let us carry it to the cetiya of the Mallas, Makuta-bandhana, and there let us cremate the body of the Blessed One.'"

“Your intention, Vāsiṭṭhas, is, ‘Worshipping, honoring, respecting, & venerating the Blessed One’s body with dances, songs, music, garlands, & scents, let’s carry it to the south, around the outside of the town, and cremate it to the south of the town. ’ The devas’ intention is, ‘Worshipping, honoring, respecting, & venerating the Blessed One’s body with heavenly dances, songs, music, garlands, & scents, lets carry it to the north of the town, enter the town through the north gate, carry it through the middle of the town and out the east gate to the Mallans’ shrine called Makuṭa-bandhana, to cremate it there.’”

' 'Vasetthas, your intention is, having paid homage to the Lord's body with dance and song..., to bum his body after carrying him out by the south gate. But the devas' intention is, having paid homage to the Lord's body with heavenly dance and song..., to carry him to the north of the city, bring him in through the north gate and bear him through the middle of the city and out through the eastern gate to the Mallas' shrine of Makuta- Bandhana, and there to bum the body.'

"Васеттхи, ваше намерение следующее: "Выражая уважение, преклонение, почёт и почитание телу Благословенного танцами, песнями, музыкой, гирляндами и благоухающими веществами, давайте отнесём его на юг за пределами города и кремируем его на южной стороне города."А вот какое, о васеттхи, намерение божеств: "Выражая уважение, преклонение, почёт и почитание телу Благословенного божественными танцами, песнями, музыкой и благоуханными веществами, давайте отнесём его на север города, войдём в город через северные ворота, пронесём его через центр города и вынесем через восточные ворота к святилищу маллов под названием Макутабандхана и там кремируем его."

У божеств же, васеттхи, намерение: „Оказав внимание, оказав заботу, уважив, почтив тело Благостного танцами, пением, музыкой, венками, благовониями, мы отнесем [его] к северу, на север от города, войдем в город через северные ворота, понесем к середине, на середину города, выйдем из восточных ворот и там к востоку от города, у святилища маллов Макутабандхана предадим огню тело Благостного“».

“Then let it be, venerable sir, in line with the devas’ intention. ”
