76."Pañcime, bhikkhave, yodhājīvā santo saṃvijjamānā lokasmiṃ.

"Bhikkhus, there are these five kinds of warriors found in the world.

What five?
|
|
|
Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco yodhājīvo asicammaṃ gahetvā dhanukalāpaṃ sannayhitvā viyūḷhaṃ saṅgāmaṃ otarati.
|
"Here, some warrior takes up a sword and shield, arms himself with a bow and quiver, and enters the fray of battle.
|
|
|
So tasmiṃ saṅgāme ussahati vāyamati.
|
He strives and exerts himself in the battle,
|
|
|
Tamenaṃ ussahantaṃ vāyamantaṃ pare hananti pariyāpādenti.
|
but his foes slay him and finish him off.
|
|
|
Evarūpopi, bhikkhave, idhekacco yodhājīvo hoti.
|
There is, bhikkhus, such a warrior here.
|
|
|
Ayaṃ, bhikkhave, paṭhamo yodhājīvo santo saṃvijjamāno lokasmiṃ.
|
This is the first kind of warrior found in the world.
