"Puna caparaṃ, āvuso, bhikkhu sīlavā hoti - pe - samādāya sikkhati sikkhāpadesu.

“Again, friends, a bhikkhu is virtuous…. Having undertaken the training rules, he trains in them.
|

So kāmānaṃyeva nibbidāya virāgāya nirodhāya paṭipanno hoti.
|
He is practicing for disenchantment with sensual pleasures, dispassion toward them, and for their cessation.260
|
|
|
So bhavānaṃyeva nibbidāya virāgāya nirodhāya paṭipanno hoti.
|
He is practicing for disenchantment with states of existence, for dispassion toward them, and for their cessation.261
|
|
|
So taṇhākkhayāya paṭipanno hoti.
|
He is practicing for the destruction of craving.
|
|
|
So lobhakkhayāya paṭipanno hoti.
|
He is practicing for the destruction of greed.262
|
|
|
So kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā aññataraṃ devanikāyaṃ upapajjati.
|
With the breakup of the body, after death, he is reborn in a certain order of devas.
|
|
|
So tato cuto anāgāmī hoti, anāgantā itthattaṃ.
|
Passing away from there, he is a non-returner, one who does not return to this state of being.
|
|
|
Ayaṃ vuccatāvuso, bahiddhāsaṃyojano puggalo anāgāmī hoti, anāgantā itthatta"nti.
|
This is called a person fettered externally, who is a non-returner, one who does not return to this state of being.” 263
