1.Hetupaccayoti – hetū hetusampayuttakānaṃ dhammānaṃ taṃsamuṭṭhānānañca rūpānaṃ hetupaccayena paccayo [paccayoti (syā.)].

1. ROOT CONDITION The roots are related to the states which are associated with roots, and the matter produced thereby, by root condition.
|
|
2.Ārammaṇapaccayoti – rūpāyatanaṃ cakkhuviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ ārammaṇapaccayena paccayo.
|
2. OBJECT CONDITION (i) Visible object-base is related to eye-consciousness element and its associated states by object condition.
|
|
Saddāyatanaṃ sotaviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ ārammaṇapaccayena paccayo.
|
(ii) Sound-base is related to ear-consciousness element and its associated states by object condition.
|
|
Gandhāyatanaṃ ghānaviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ ārammaṇapaccayena paccayo.
|
(iii) Odour-base is related to nose-consciousness element and its associated states by object condition.
|
|
Rasāyatanaṃ jivhāviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ ārammaṇapaccayena paccayo.
|
(iv) Taste-base is related to tongue-consciousness element and its associated states by object condition.
|
|
Phoṭṭhabbāyatanaṃ kāyaviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ ārammaṇapaccayena paccayo.
|
(v) Tangible object-base is related to body-consciousness element and its associated states by object condition.
|
|
Rūpāyatanaṃ saddāyatanaṃ gandhāyatanaṃ rasāyatanaṃ phoṭṭhabbāyatanaṃ manodhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ ārammaṇapaccayena paccayo.
|
(vi) Visible object-base, sound-base, odour-base, taste-base, tangible object-base is related to mind-element and its asso ciated states by object condition.
|
|
Sabbe dhammā manoviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ ārammaṇapaccayena paccayo.
|
(vii) All states are related to mind-consciousness element and its associated states by object condition.
|
|
Yaṃ yaṃ dhammaṃ ārabbha ye ye dhammā uppajjanti cittacetasikā dhammā, te te dhammā tesaṃ tesaṃ dhammānaṃ ārammaṇapaccayena paccayo.
|
(viii) Taking any state as object, these states, consciousness and mental factors, arise ; those (former) states are related to those (latter) states by object condition.
|
|
3.Adhipatipaccayoti – chandādhipati chandasampayuttakānaṃ dhammānaṃ taṃsamuṭṭhānānañca rūpānaṃ adhipatipaccayena paccayo.
|
3. PREDOMINANCE CONDITION (i) Predominant desire is related to the states associated with desire, and the matter produced thereby, by predominance condition.
|
|
Vīriyādhipati vīriyasampayuttakānaṃ dhammānaṃ taṃsamuṭṭhānānañca rūpānaṃ adhipatipaccayena paccayo.
|
(ii) Predominant effort is related to the states associated with effort, and the matter produced thereby, by predominance condition.
|
|
Cittādhipati cittasampayuttakānaṃ dhammānaṃ taṃsamuṭṭhānānañca rūpānaṃ adhipatipaccayena paccayo.
|
(iii) Predominant consciousness is related to the states associated with consciousness, and the matter produced thereby, by predominance condition.
|
|
Vīmaṃsādhipati vīmaṃsasampayuttakānaṃ dhammānaṃ taṃsamuṭṭhānānañca rūpānaṃ adhipatipaccayena paccayo.
|
(iv) Predominant investigating-wisdom is related to the states associated with investigating-wisdom, and the matter produced thereby, by predominance condition.
|
|
Yaṃ yaṃ dhammaṃ garuṃ katvā ye ye dhammā uppajjanti cittacetasikā dhammā, te te dhammā tesaṃ tesaṃ dhammānaṃ adhipatipaccayena paccayo.
|
(v) Taking any state as estimable object, these states, consciousness and mental factors, arise ; those (former) states are related to those (latter) states by predominance condition.
|
|
4.Anantarapaccayoti – cakkhuviññāṇadhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manodhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
4. PROXIMITY CONDITION (i) Eye-consciousness element and its associated states arc related to mind-element and its associated states by proximity condition ;
|
|
Manodhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manoviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
mind-element and its associated states are related to mind-consciousness element and its associated states by proximity condition.
|
|
Sotaviññāṇadhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manodhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
(ii) Ear-consciousness element and its associated states are related to mind-element and its associated states by proximity condition ;
|
|
Manodhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manoviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
mind-element and its associated states are related to mind-consciousness element and its associated states by proximity condition.
|
|
Ghānaviññāṇadhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manodhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.

(iii) Nose-consciousness element and its associated states are related to mind-element and its associated states by proximity condition ;
|
|
Manodhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manoviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|

(iv) Tongue-consciousness element and its associated states are related to mind-element and its associated states by proximity condition ;

|

(vi) Preceding faultless states are related to subsequent faultless states by proximity condition.
|
|
Purimā purimā kusalā dhammā pacchimānaṃ pacchimānaṃ abyākatānaṃ dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
(vii) Preceding faultless states are related to subsequent indeterminate states by proximity condition.
|
|
Purimā purimā akusalā dhammā pacchimānaṃ pacchimānaṃ akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
(viii) Preceding faulty states are related to subsequent faulty states by proximity condition.
|
|
Purimā purimā akusalā dhammā pacchimānaṃ pacchimānaṃ abyākatānaṃ dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
(ix) Preceding faulty states are related to subsequent indeterminate states by proximity condition.
|
|
Purimā purimā abyākatā dhammā pacchimānaṃ pacchimānaṃ abyākatānaṃ dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
(x) Preceding indeterminate states are related to subsequent indeterminate states proximity condition.
|
|
Purimā purimā abyākatā dhammā pacchimānaṃ pacchimānaṃ kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
(xi) Preceding indeterminate states are related to subsequent faultless states proximity condition.
|
|
Purimā purimā abyākatā dhammā pacchimānaṃ pacchimānaṃ akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
(xii) Preceding indeterminate states are related to subsequent faulty states by proximity condition.
|
|
Yesaṃ yesaṃ dhammānaṃ anantarā ye ye dhammā uppajjanti cittacetasikā dhammā, te te dhammā tesaṃ tesaṃ dhammānaṃ anantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
(xiii) In proximity to these states, these (other) states, consciousness and mental factors, arise ; those (former) states are related to those (latter) states by proximity condition.
|
|
5.Samanantarapaccayoti – cakkhuviññāṇadhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manodhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ samanantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
5. CONTIGUITY CONDITION (i) Eye-consciousness element and its associated states are related to mind-element and its associated states by contiguity condition ;
|
|
Manodhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manoviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ samanantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
mind-element and its associated states are related to mind-consciousness element and its associated states by contiguity condition.
|
|
Sotaviññāṇadhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manodhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ samanantarapaccayena paccayo.

(ii) Ear-consciousness element and its associated states are related to mind-element and its associated states by contiguity condition ;

Manodhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manoviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ samanantarapaccayena paccayo.
|
mind-element and its associated states are related to mind-consciousness element and its associated states by contiguity condition.

|
Ghāṇaviññāṇadhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manodhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ samanantarapaccayena paccayo.

(iii) Nose-consciousness element and its associated states are related to mind-element and its associated states by conti guity condition ;
|
|
Manodhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manoviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ samanantarapaccayena paccayo.
|

|
Jivhāviññāṇadhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manodhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ samanantarapaccayena paccayo.

(iv) Tongue-consciousness element and its associated states are related to mind-element and its associated states by contiguity condition;
|
|
Manodhātu taṃsampayuttakā ca dhammā manoviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ samanantarapaccayena paccayo.
|

|

(v) Body-consciousness element and its associated states are related to mind-element and its associated states by contiguity condition ;

(vii) Preceding faultless states are related to subsequent indeterminate states by contiguity condition.

|
(viii) Preceding faulty states are related to subsequent faulty states by contiguity condition.
|
|

(ix) Preceding faulty states are related to subsequent indeterminate states by contiguity condition.
|

(x) Preceding indeterminate states are related to subse quent indeterminate states by contiguity condition.

(xi) Preceding indeterminate states are related to subse quent faultless states by contiguity condition.
|

(xii) Preceding indeterminate states are related to subse quent faulty states by contiguity condition.
|
|

6.Sahajātapaccayoti – cattāro khandhā arūpino aññamaññaṃ sahajātapaccayena paccayo.
|
6. CONASCENCE CONDITION (i) The four immaterial (i.e. mental) aggregates are mutually related to one another by conascence condition.
|
|
Cattāro mahābhūtā aññamaññaṃ sahajātapaccayena paccayo.
|
(ii) The four great primaries are mutually related to one another by conascence condition.
|
|
Okkantikkhaṇe nāmarūpaṃ aññamaññaṃ sahajātapaccayena paccayo.
|
(iii) At the moment of conception, mentality and materiality are mutually related to one another by conascence condition.
|
|
Cittacetasikā dhammā cittasamuṭṭhānānaṃ rūpānaṃ sahajātapaccayena paccayo.
|
(iv) States, consciousness and mental factors, are related to mind-produced matter by conascence condition.
|
|
Mahābhūtā upādārūpānaṃ sahajātapaccayena paccayo.
|
(v) The great primaries are related to derived matter by conascence condition.
|
|
Rūpino dhammā arūpīnaṃ dhammānaṃ kiñci kāle [kañci kālaṃ (syā.)] sahajātapaccayena paccayo, kiñci kāle na sahajātapaccayena paccayo.
|
(vi) The material states are sometimes related to the immaterial states by conascence condition and are sometimes not related by conascence condition.
|
|
7.Aññamaññapaccayoti – cattāro khandhā arūpino aññamaññapaccayena paccayo.
|
7. MUTUALITY CONDITION "(i) The four immaterial aggregates are related to one another by mutuality condition.
|
|
Cattāro mahābhūtā aññamaññapaccayena paccayo.
|
(ii) The four great primaries are related to one another by mutuality condition.
|
|
Okkantikkhaṇe nāmarūpaṃ aññamaññapaccayena paccayo.
|
(iii) At the moment of conception, mentality and materiality are related to one another by mutuality condition.
|
|
8.Nissayapaccayoti – cattāro khandhā arūpino aññamaññaṃ nissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
8. DEPENDENCE CONDITION (i) The four immaterial aggregates are mutually related to one another by dependence condition.
|
|
Cattāro mahābhūtā aññamaññaṃ nissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
(ii) The four great primaries are mutually related to one another by dependence condition.
|
|

Cakkhāyatanaṃ cakkhuviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ nissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
(vi) Eye-base is related to eye-consciousness element and its associated states by dependence condition.
|
|
Sotāyatanaṃ sotaviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ nissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
(vii) Ear-base is related to ear-consciousness element and its associated states by dependence condition.
|
|
Ghānāyatanaṃ ghānaviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ nissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
(viii) Nose-base is related to nose-consciousness element and its associated states by dependence condition.
|
|
Jivhāyatanaṃ jivhāviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ nissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
(ix) Tongue-base is related to tongue-consciousness element and its associated states by dependence condition.
|
|
Kāyāyatanaṃ kāyaviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ nissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
(x) Body-base is related to body-consciousness element and its associated states by dependence condition.
|
|
Yaṃ rūpaṃ nissāya manodhātu ca manoviññāṇadhātu ca vattanti, taṃ rūpaṃ manodhātuyā ca manoviññāṇadhātuyā ca taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ nissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
(xi) Depending on this matter (i.e. heart-base), mind-element and mind-consciousness element arise ; that matter is related to mind-element and mind-consciousness element and their associated states by dependence condition.
|
|
9.Upanissayapaccayoti – purimā purimā kusalā dhammā pacchimānaṃ pacchimānaṃ kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ upanissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
9. STRONG-DEPENDENCE CONDITION (i) Preceding faultless states are related to subsequent faultless states by strong-dependence condition.
|
|
Purimā purimā kusalā dhammā pacchimānaṃ pacchimānaṃ akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ kesañci upanissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
(ii) Preceding faultless states are related to some subse quent faulty states by strong-dependence condition.
|
|
Purimā purimā kusalā dhammā pacchimānaṃ pacchimānaṃ abyākatānaṃ dhammānaṃ upanissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
(iii) Preceding faultless states are related to subsequent indeterminate states by strong-dependence condition.
|
|
Purimā purimā akusalā dhammā pacchimānaṃ pacchimānaṃ akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ upanissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
(iv) Preceding faulty states are related to subsequent faulty states by strong-dependence condition.
|
|
Purimā purimā akusalā dhammā pacchimānaṃ pacchimānaṃ kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ kesañci upanissayapaccayena paccayo.
|
(v) Preceding faulty states are related to some subsequent faultless states by strong-dependence condition.
|
|

(ix) Preceding indeterminate states are related to subse quent faulty states by strong-dependence condition.

Utubhojanampi upanissayapaccayena paccayo.

(x) Also, weather and food are related by strong-depen dence condition ;

Puggalopi upanissayapaccayena paccayo.

a person is related by strong-dependence condition ;

Senāsanampi upanissayapaccayena paccayo.

a lodging-place is related by strong-dependence condition.
|
|
10.Purejātapaccayoti – cakkhāyatanaṃ cakkhuviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ purejātapaccayena paccayo.
|
10. PRENASCENCE CONDITION (i) Eye-base is related to eye-consciousness element and its associated states by prenascence condition.
|
|
Sotāyatanaṃ sotaviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ purejātapaccayena paccayo.
|
(ii) Ear-base is related to ear-consciousness element and its associated states by prenascence condition.
|
|
Ghānāyatanaṃ ghānaviññāṇadhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ purejātapaccayena paccayo.
|
(iii) Nose-base is related to nose-consciousness element and its associated states by prenascence condition.
|
|

(xi) Visible object-base, sound-base, odour-base, taste-base, tangible object-base is related to mind-element and its associated states by prenascence condition.
|
|
Yaṃ rūpaṃ nissāya manodhātu ca manoviññāṇadhātu ca vattanti, taṃ rūpaṃ manodhātuyā taṃsampayuttakānañca dhammānaṃ purejātapaccayena paccayo.
|
(xii) Depending on this matter, mind-element and mind-consciousness element arise ; that matter is related to mind-element and its associated states by prenascence condition ;
|
|
