1021.Devāti.

Tayo devā – sammutidevā [sammatidevā (syā.)], upapattidevā, visuddhidevā.
|
1021. Devas means three (types of) devas, (viz.,) conventional devas, devas by birth, devas by purification.
|
|
|
Sammutidevā nāma – rājāno, deviyo, kumārā.
|
Conventional devas means kings, queens (and their) children.
|
|
|
Upapattidevā nāma – cātumahārājike [cātummahārājike (sī. syā.)] deve upādāya tadupari devā.
|
Devas by birth means, commencing with Catumaharajika Devas, (all) devas from there upwards.
|
|
|
Visuddhidevā nāma – arahanto vuccanti.
|
Devas by purification means Noble Ones.
|
|
|
Dānaṃ datvā, sīlaṃ samādiyitvā, uposathakammaṃ katvā kattha upapajjanti?
|
Having given offerings, having practised morality, having made (eight constituent) preceptual observance, where are (beings) born?

Dānaṃ datvā, sīlaṃ samādiyitvā, uposathakammaṃ katvā appekacce khattiyamahāsālānaṃ sahabyataṃ upapajjanti, appekacce brāhmaṇamahāsālānaṃ sahabyataṃ upapajjanti, appekacce gahapatimahāsālānaṃ sahabyataṃ upapajjanti, appekacce cātumahārājikānaṃ devānaṃ sahabyataṃ upapajjanti, appekacce tāvatiṃsānaṃ devānaṃ sahabyataṃ upapajjanti, appekacce yāmānaṃ devānaṃ sahabyataṃ upapajjanti, appekacce tusitānaṃ devānaṃ sahabyataṃ upapajjanti, appekacce nimmānaratīnaṃ devānaṃ sahabyataṃ upapajjanti, appekacce paranimmitavasavattīnaṃ devānaṃ sahabyataṃ upapajjanti.

Having given offerings, having practised morality, having made (eight constituent) preceptual observance, some beings are born into the company of rulers of great wealth; some are born into the company of Brahmins of great wealth; some are born into the company of householders of great wealth; some are born into the company of Catumaharajika devas; some are born into the company of Tavatimsa devas; some are born into the company of Yama devas; some are born into the company of Tusita devas; some are born into the company of Nimmanarati devas; some are born into the company of Paranimmitavasavattı devas.
