111.Vuttañhetaṃ bhagavatā, vuttamarahatāti me sutaṃ – §111. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
"Sampannasīlā, bhikkhave, viharatha [hotha (syā.)] sampannapātimokkhā; pātimokkhasaṃvarasaṃvutā viharatha ācāragocarasampannā aṇumattesu vajjesu bhayadassāvino; samādāya sikkhatha sikkhāpadesu. “Be consummate in virtue, monks, and consummate in the Pāṭimokkha. Dwell restrained in accordance with the Pāṭimokkha, consummate in your behavior & sphere of activity. Train yourselves, having undertaken the training rules, seeing danger in the slightest faults.
"Sampannasīlānaṃ vo, bhikkhave, viharataṃ [bhavataṃ (syā.)] sampannapātimokkhānaṃ pātimokkhasaṃvarasaṃvutānaṃ viharataṃ ācāragocarasampannānaṃ aṇumattesu vajjesu bhayadassāvīnaṃ samādāya sikkhataṃ sikkhāpadesu kimassa uttari karaṇīyaṃ [kimassa bhikkhave uttari karaṇīyaṃ (sabbattha)] ? “When one is consummate in virtue, consummate in the Pāṭimokkha; dwelling restrained in accordance with the Pāṭimokkha, consummate in one’s behavior & sphere of activity; training oneself, having undertaken the training rules, seeing danger in the slightest faults–what more is to be done?
"Carato cepi, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno [abhijjhā byāpādo vigato (a. ni. 4.12) aṭṭhakathāya sameti] bhijjhā vigatā [abhijjhā byāpādo vigato (a. ni. 4.12) aṭakathāya sameti] hoti, byāpādo vigato hoti [thinamiddhaṃ uddhaccakukkuccaṃ vicikicchā (a. ni. 4.12)], thinamiddhaṃ vigataṃ hoti, uddhaccakukkuccaṃ vigataṃ hoti, vicikicchā [thinamiddhaṃ uddhaccakukkuccaṃ vicikiccā (a. ni. 4.12)] pahīnā hoti, āraddhaṃ hoti vīriyaṃ asallīnaṃ, upaṭṭhitā sati asammuṭṭhā [appamuṭṭhā (syā.)], passaddho kāyo asāraddho, samāhitaṃ cittaṃ ekaggaṃ. “If, while he is walking, any greed in a monk is done away with, any ill will any sloth & torpor any restlessness & anxiety is done away with, any uncertainty is abandoned; if his persistence is aroused and not lax; if his mindfulness is established & unmuddled; if his body is calm & unaroused; if his mind is centered & unified:
Carampi, bhikkhave, bhikkhu evaṃbhūto ātāpī ottāpī satataṃ samitaṃ āraddhavīriyo pahitattoti vuccati. then a monk walking with such ardency & compunction is called continually & continuously resolute, one with persistence aroused.

Etamatthaṃ bhagavā avoca. [This is the meaning of what the Blessed One said.]
Tatthetaṃ iti vuccati – [So with regard to this it was said:]

Samavekkhitā ca dhammānaṃ, khandhānaṃ udayabbayaṃ. observing the arising & passing away of phenomena, of aggregates:

Cetosamathasāmīciṃ, sikkhamānaṃ sadā sataṃ; always mindful, training in the mastery
Satataṃ pahitattoti, āhu bhikkhuṃ tathāvidha"nti. of awareness-tranquility– is said to be continually resolute.1
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti. [This, too, was the meaning of what was said by the Blessed One, so I have heard.]
Dvādasamaṃ.
