Comm. NT: 18. Vism-mhṭ explains “sati sati āyatane” (rendered here by “whenever there is occasion” with “tasmiṃ tasmiṃ pubbahetu-ādi-kāraṇe sati” (“when there is this or that reason consisting in a previous cause, etc.”); M-a IV 146 says: “Sati sati kāraṇe. Kim pan’ ettha kāraṇan’ti. Abhiññā’ va kāraṇaṃ (‘Whenever there is a reason. But what is the reason here? The direct-knowledge itself is the reason’).”
