Beyond (huram vä) demonstrates the rest of the world besides that. Now [although] this [latter] can extend to include the whole world except the human, [nevertheless] since ' or in the heavens ' is said next, both the human and heavenly worlds being thus excluded, what has to be understood [by' beyond '] is the inclusion of the remaining [world of] Nägas, Supannas, and so on.12 |
Comm Nyanamoli thera: Nägas of this kind are conceived as cobra-spirits, normally friendly to man (see this Ch., § 126). Supannas are a sort of winged demon, whose delight is to prey upon Nägas.
