169. Tena kho pana samayena aññataro bhikkhu tadahuposathe āpattiṃ āpanno hoti. Atha kho tassa bhikkhuno etadahosi – "bhagavatā paññattaṃ 'na sāpattikena uposatho kātabbo'ti. Ahañcamhi āpattiṃ āpanno. Kathaṃ nu kho mayā paṭipajjitabba"nti? Bhagavato etamatthaṃ ārocesuṃ. Idha pana, bhikkhave, bhikkhu tadahuposathe āpattiṃ āpanno hoti. Tena, bhikkhave, bhikkhunā ekaṃ bhikkhuṃ upasaṅkamitvā ekaṃsaṃ uttarāsaṅgaṃ karitvā ukkuṭikaṃ nisīditvā añjaliṃ paggahetvā evamassa vacanīyo – "ahaṃ, āvuso, itthannāmaṃ āpattiṃ āpanno, taṃ paṭidesemī"ti. Tena vattabbo – "passasī"ti. "Āma passāmī"ti. "Āyatiṃ saṃvareyyāsī"ti.

169.Tena kho pana samayena aññataro bhikkhu tadahuposathe āpattiṃ āpanno hoti. Now on that occasion a certain monk had fallen into an offense on the day of the Uposatha1. Comm. KT: 1. This means that as of the day of the Uposatha, he hadn’t made amends, not that he necessarily committed the offense on that day.
