        | Tena kho pana samayena uggāhamāno paribbājako samaṇamuṇḍikāputto [samaṇamaṇḍikāputto (sī. pī.)] samayappavādake tindukācīre ekasālake mallikāya ārāme paṭivasati mahatiyā paribbājakaparisāya saddhiṃ pañcamattehi paribbājakasatehi. | Now on that occasion the wanderer Uggahamana Samanamandikaputta was staying in Mallika's Park, the single-hailed Tinduka plantation for philosophical debates, together with a large following of wanderers, with as many as three hundred wanderers. |  | 
        
        | Atha kho pañcakaṅgo thapati sāvatthiyā nikkhami divā divassa bhagavantaṃ dassanāya. | 2. The carpenter Pancakanga went out from Savatthi at midday in order to see the Blessed One. |  | 
        
        | Atha kho pañcakaṅgassa thapatissa etadahosi – "akālo kho tāva bhagavantaṃ dassanāya; paṭisallīno bhagavā. | Then he thought: "It is not the right time to see the Blessed One; he is still in retreat. |  | 
        
        | Manobhāvaniyānampi bhikkhūnaṃ asamayo dassanāya; paṭisallīnā manobhāvaniyā bhikkhū. | And it is not the right time to see bhikkhus worthy of esteem; they are still in retreat. |  | 
        
        | Yaṃnūnāhaṃ yena samayappavādako tindukācīro ekasālako mallikāya ārāmo yena uggāhamāno paribbājako samaṇamuṇḍikāputto tenupasaṅkameyya"nti. | Suppose I went to Mallika's Park, to the wanderer Uggahamana Samanamandikaputta?" |  | 
        
        | Atha kho pañcakaṅgo thapati yena samayappavādako tindukācīro ekasālako mallikāya ārāmo yena uggāhamāno paribbājako samaṇamuṇḍikāputto tenupasaṅkami. | And he went to Mallika's Park. |  |
