42.Atha kho cundo samaṇuddeso pāvāyaṃ vassaṃvuṭṭho [vassaṃvuttho (sī. syā. kaṃ. pī.)] yena sāmagāmo yenāyasmā ānando tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā āyasmantaṃ ānandaṃ abhivādetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdi.

3. Then the novice Cunda,[978] who had spent the Rains at Pava, went to the venerable Ananda, and after paying homage to him, he sat down at one side

Ekamantaṃ nisinno kho cundo samaṇuddeso āyasmantaṃ ānandaṃ etadavoca – "nigaṇṭho, bhante, nāṭaputto pāvāyaṃ adhunākālaṅkato.
|
and told him what was taking place.

|
Tassa kālaṅkiriyāya bhinnā nigaṇṭhā dvedhikajātā - pe - bhinnathūpe appaṭisaraṇe"ti.
|

|
Evaṃ vutte, āyasmā ānando cundaṃ samaṇuddesaṃ etadavoca – "atthi kho idaṃ, āvuso cunda, kathāpābhataṃ bhagavantaṃ dassanāya.
|
The venerable Ananda then said to the novice Cunda: "Friend Cunda, this is news that should be told to the Blessed One.
|
|
|
Āyāma, āvuso cunda, yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkamissāma; upasaṅkamitvā etamatthaṃ bhagavato ārocessāmā"ti.
|
Come, let us approach the Blessed One and tell him this."
|
|
|
"Evaṃ, bhante"ti kho cundo samaṇuddeso āyasmato ānandassa paccassosi.
|
"Yes, venerable sir," the novice Cunda replied.
