Imehi sattahi ākārehi cittaṃ anupassati.

51. He contemplates cognizance in these seven aspects.

Cittaṃ upaṭṭhānaṃ, no sati.
|
Cognizance is the establishment (foundation), but it is not the mindfulness.
|
|
|
Sati upaṭṭhānañceva sati ca.
|
Mindfulness is both the establishment (foundation) and the mindfulness.
|
|
|
Tāya satiyā tena ñāṇena taṃ cittaṃ anupassati.
|
By means of that mindfulness and that knowledge he contemplates that cognizance.
|
|
|
Tena vuccati – "citte cittānupassanāsatipaṭṭhānā".
|
Hence 'Development of the Foundation (Establishment) of Mindfulness consist- ing in contemplation of cognizance as cognizance' is said. <cf. Ill 397>
