Tattha sakalalokaṃ tīraṇapariññāya tathāya gato avagatoti tathāgato.
|
Thus he is the Tathāgata because he has gone through—i.e., undergone—reality by fully understanding the entire world270 through the scrutinization (of its essential characteristics, as impermanent, suffering, and non-self).

|
Lokasamudayaṃ pahānapariññāya tathāya gato atītoti tathāgato.
|
He is the Tathāgata because he has gone through—i.e., gone beyond—reality by fully understanding the world through the abandonment of its origin.
|
|
|
Lokanirodhaṃ sacchikiriyāya tathāya gato pattoti tathāgato.
|
He is the Tathāgata because he has gone through—i.e., attained—reality by realizing the cessation of the world.
|
|
|
Lokanirodhagāminiṃ paṭipadaṃ tathaṃ gato paṭipannoti tathāgato.
|
And he is the Tathāgata because he has really gone along—i.e., practiced—the way leading to the cessation of the world.
|
